Belgrade, October 04, 2010. – In the night between the 1st and 2nd of October, the MMA’s transplant team performed a liver transplant surgery, the 14th in a series of liver transplantations done in our institution. The liver was transplanted into 33-old patient P.M. from Mrkonjić Grad, Republic of Srpska, who is making a good recovery in the MMA’s Transplantation Center.
Prior to the surgery, the members of the MMA’s surgical team assisted by their colleagues from the Niš Clinical Center explanted organs from two donors. The first liver transplant surgery was successfully performed at the Military Medical Academy , the second liver was transplanted into a patient in the Republic of Serbia Clinical Center, whilst the kidney transplantation was done in the Niš Clinical Center
This is another example of successful cooperation of all parts of the integrated Republic of Serbia Health Care System, which is aimed at improvement of transplant program in our country, and significantly contributes to the introduction of the Serbian Transplant Program. The Military Medical Academy would continue to give its full contribution to the efforts of the Biomedicine Department and Serbian Ministry of Health.
